(1) Requirement of Driver’s License.

(a) If a position requires a valid driver’s license prior to beginning employment, an applicant must provide documentation of a current valid driver’s license and of automobile insurance.

(b) Where a position involves transport as a major part of job duties, the applicant must agree to a driving record check.

(c) Proof of valid driver’s license and insurance will be recorded at new employee orientation. A copy of the employee’s license and proof of insurance will be kept in the employee’s personnel files. Employees must provide the Tribe with any updated information.

(d) If a new employee has an out-of-state driver’s license, he or she will be required to obtain a Washington driver’s license within the time frames specified by State law. Failure to obtain a Washington driver’s license in a timely fashion may be grounds for discipline or termination.

(2) Loss of Driver’s License During Employment.

(a) An employee who loses his or her driver’s license or insurance for any reason during employment with the Tribe must immediately notify their direct supervisor of this fact in writing.

(b) Failure to notify the Tribe will be cause for disciplinary action.

(c) An employee whose position requires a valid driver’s license and insurance and who loses either may be terminated for cause for failure to meet job requirements.

(3) Eligibility to Work in the United States. An applicant offered a position must provide documentation required by Federal law to prove that he or she is eligible to legally work in the United States.

(4) Pre-Employment Background Screening.

(a) An applicant offered a position must agree to and complete the background screening for the position prior to being hired by the Tribe. The position announcement will indicate the type of background screening for each position.

(b) The background screening for all positions shall include pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and a criminal background check. An applicant offered a position must test negative for drugs and alcohol as part of the screening process. In the event that the applicant offered a position tests positive, the offer of employment will be withdrawn.

(c) Some positions such as positions in the Accounting Department require additional background screening including but not limited to credit history.

(5) Covered Position Background Screening. Positions considered “covered positions” under the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Policy must meet the requirements of that policy in order to be eligible for hire for that position.

(6) Head Start Program Positions. All applicants for positions for the Tribal Head Start Program are subject to the background screenings required by the Head Start Act and its regulations. [Res. 2022-10-016 § 1, 2022. Formerly 5-03-018.]
