Committee members will be subject to background checks as part of the appointment process. Individuals who have been convicted of crimes of violence, sexual assault, molestation, exploitation, crimes against persons, and offenses against children cannot serve on any committees of the Samish Indian Nation. The Tribal Council will pay for the costs of the background checks.

A committee member who is arrested or charged with a crime while serving on a committee must disclose the arrest or charge to the committee chair or, in the event the committee chair is arrested or charged, to the Tribal Chairman. The member will be suspended from the committee until the criminal charges are resolved. In the event the member is convicted of the crime, they will be removed from the committee.
